And such a badly organized website will be bad for SEO and confusing to the users.

Through website architecture, you can organize your website and give priority to the most important pages in terms of visibility while also ensuring that users can easily navigate through every page.

This write up is about five ideal website architecture for SEO.

1. Creating your organizational plan:

This is the first thing that needs to be done in website development. You need to figure out how best you can organize your site by looking at what experts have done. There should not be many technicalities here if your website will only have a few pages but can be a bit complicated if your website will be having a lot of pages.

In making your site hierarchy, make it very simple and straight to the point. Make a rule of not allowing more than three clicks from the home page to the target page.

2. Defining your primary categories:

In defining your primary categories, you need to first consider the various information you want to put on your website. And these should be based on that information that is valuable to your users. Think carefully about these and have an idea of how many main categories you want to divide your site into.

For example, if your website has to do with music, you can have categories like Blues, Country Music, Hip Pop, Classical Music and so on. Even if you do not have the contents at for all categories at the initial stage, let all the categories still appear there.

3. Defining all the relevant subcategories:

Aside from your main or primary categories, you have to think about those subcategories that can appear under each main category. If you are into music like the example given above with main categories of Blues, Country Music, and the likes, Blues can still have subcategories like Year of Release, Award and so on. Although, not all website will need subcategories within the main categories I tell you that many will have for the proper organization.

4. Strategically using internal linking:

These internal links are vital SEO tools that help Google to understand the links and relationship between your various pages. It also allows Google to efficiently index your website. But for SEO reasons, you do not have to overdo the linking on your site, you should only put them when necessary and helpful to your website users. It should be a pointer to other vital information on your website.

5. Making use of 301 redirects:

These are used in a situation whereby you change the URL of your page or you move a page. And if that page has already built up some link authority, this will make it preserve it. This is important because whenever your site visitors come around, they can still find that page rather than giving an error page.
